Supporting the Government’s goal of a smokefree England by 2030

On Monday 29th July, the SFAC wrote to the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, Matt Hancock MP, to share our support for this goal, which while challenging, is achievable and popular and will save hundreds of thousands of lives in years to come.

The goal is set out in the Prevention Green Paper: Advancing our health: prevention in the 2020s.

The Green Paper commits to setting out further proposals for achieving a smoke-free 2030 at a later date. The Government is also going to be considering options for revenue raising, including the ‘polluter pays’ approach and the possibility of raising funds under the Health Act 2006.

SFAC members are encouraged to respond to the consultation which ends at 11:59pm on 14 October 2019.  Read our letter of support here.
